About Bookgush

The spark for Bookgush came when my wife Pamela's birthday was approaching and I couldn't think of a single gift that felt like enough. Pamela loves books the way some people love people. I didn't want to give her a thing. I wanted to give her the people who love her, in the language she loves most.

So I asked 26 of her closest friends to each choose a book — one whose title finished a sentence about her. The books gathered in our living room, and on her birthday she picked them up one at a time, guessing who had chosen each one, while their faces and voices filled the screen. Some books didn't arrive in time, so I printed their covers — and the reveal happened anyway.

She had no idea. And I was amazed by what I learned about my own wife from watching her be seen by everyone else who loves her.

What started as a birthday gift for Pamela became Bookgush.

Bookgush founder

One celebration became a company.

At Bookgush, our mission is simple: to help people show someone how deeply they're known. Here's what we can promise you.

Independent, on purpose

Bookgush was created by one person, for one person — and it’s still independent today. No investors, no advertisers. Every decision gets made for your celebration, not a quarterly report.

Designed with acumen and care

Every screen — from the first invitation to the final reveal — was built with an obsession for each moment feeling just right.

The reveal comes first

Everything Bookgush does exists to serve one moment: the Honoree, a book in their hands, guessing. If a feature doesn’t make that moment better, we don’t build it.

You’ll hear back from the founder

Bookgush is new, and that’s your advantage: right now, every celebration gets the founder’s personal attention. Write to us and you’ll hear back from the person who built it — usually the same day.

Every book makes the shelf

It happened at the very first celebration: books stuck in the mail. So we print covers, and the reveal happens anyway. That promise has been part of Bookgush since before it had a name.

Their moment belongs to them

Videos and notes are private to your celebration — never public, never sold. We’re honored to be trusted with something this personal, and we treat it that way.
